Sugarland, “Still the Same” (aka awesome as ever)

Less than a year after reuniting, the duo will take the Chicago Theatre stage for US*99 &'s Stars & Strings

September 24, 2018

November 8th, 2017 was a massive day for country fans. While presenting Vocal Duo of the Year to Brothers Osborne at the 51st Annual Country Music Association Awards, one of the genre’s legendary duos, Sugarland, announced that they weren’t just reuniting for the presentation. After a 5-year hiatus, Jennifer Nettles & Kristian Bush said they were working on new music, together.

Not long after, the pair announced that “Still the Same” would be their next single. “The title of the song is so meaningful to us. We always knew we were going to make music again, so this has been the best of both worlds. We were able to take time to feed our personal passions, and we’re excited to come back together and create music as a band again.” - Sugarland The song was released on December 21st, 2017 with the corresponding tour to kick-off in 2018.

We said new music before the end of the year and we meant it! Thrilled to announce our new single #StillTheSame will be available December 21.

They presented at the 53rd ACM awards, released their title track “Bigger” with the pre-sale of the album, did a TV blitz with stops at E! News and Jimmy Kimmel Live… And then… there was “Babe” featuring Taylor Swift.

Hey #Babe… ------

— Sugarland (@Sugarlandmusic) April 19, 2018

Written by Taylor Swift and Train’s Pat Monahan, it was the first song Sugarland had ever recorded that wasn’t written by themselves. “We’ve never put someone else’s song on a Sugarland record, but we were immediately interested in ‘Babe’ the first time we heard it!” - Jennifer Nettles Did You Know? The final afternoon of Sugarland’s recording sessions have historically been good luck for them. Both “Stuck Like Glue” and “All I Want to Do” were from final recording sessions. When Taylor Swift heard the duo’s take on the song, she loved it so much that she wanted to be a part of it too! “This collaboration is the perfect combination of mutual admiration for each other and mutual admiration for great songs. As artists, we really see the world through a similar lens.” - Jennifer Nettles Since then Sugarland released other songs off of “Bigger” including “Mother” and “Tuesday’s Broken,” before the album went on sale June 8th.

It is finally here to share with the world!!! We could not be more excited for you to take a listen.--

Reflecting back, Sugarland told fans on Twitter: “Before this tour began, we prayed for wisdom and meaning. We hoped that every fan would have a safe place to hang their bag for a few hours. More than anything, we hoped that you would have fun. That you would dance and throw your head back singing. Until next time!” And now, less than a year after they reunited (by one day!) that “next time” will be when Sugarland takes the stage at the Chicago Theatre for what is sure to be a historic, acoustic, guitar pull to honor our veterans at US*99 &'s Stars & Strings.
